Bug Out Food

This will cover some ideas for food while bugging out. Food is one of the important items to survive just behind shelter. You can go about three weeks without food, causing it to be an important item to have while going to your bug out location or just on the run after SHTF.

There are many ways to have food for SHTF such as storing energy bars, MREs, freeze-dried food, or even learning to identify edible plants (which can help keep the price for groceries down, depending on location)

Food to store for bugging out

  • Energy bars
  • MREs
  • Freeze-dried meals
  • Vacuum sealing
  • Rice

Easy plants to identify (get a book or someone who has experience to help)

  • Dandelion
  • Clover
  • Acorns (boil or turn to flower)
  • Wood sorrel
  • Pine (cambium and tea from leaves)
  • Maple (cambium and seeds)
  • Black berries

Even though these plants are easy to identify, it is still important to practice learning plants like these (however it is recommended to only learn 2 or 3 at a time). Learning less plants at a single time is better, because it would be easier to remember. Also only learn edible plants so it’s less likely to get edible and toxic look a likes confused.
